Spotify, the Swedish music-streaming service that’s taking the technology world by storm, might be coming to the U.S. within the year. Spotify’s Senior Vice President Paul Brown said he expects to see the company come stateside in about three to six months, probably appearing as a bundled service on mobile devices.
Spotify has been going strong since it was revealed in October of 2008, attracting over seven million users across Europe. It essentially combines iTunes and Pandora, giving users controlled access to music and allowing them to share tracks with one another for free. (It’s funded by ads that play intermittently, similar to Pandora’s set-up.) While it’s not ideal for searching for new music (it helps to know what you’re looking for), Spotify is expected to be just as popular in the U.S. as it has been abroad.
