Watch the Trailer for Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World

In his wide-eyed portrayals of the awkward high-schooler (Arrested Development, Superbad and Juno, amongst others), Michael Cera tended to stumble into his romantic encounters. (Maeby and Juno undoubtedly made the first moves.)

But as revealed today, Cera will soon be fighting for his next—and with a furrowed brow, nonetheless.

Via Twitter, director Edgar Wright has revealed the first-ever trailer for Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. The film is the motion-picture adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s beloved comic book series and, as previously hypothesized, may be helpful in allowing Cera break free from his childhood typecasting. Here, he plays the titular, 23-year-old hero who is not only determined to win over Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) but defeat her seven ex-boyfriends in battle, SMAKS and all.

The trailer provides plenty of chances for Cera to throw a jab or two, though none toward Gideon Gordon Graves (Jason Schwartzman), the last ex that Scott Pilgrim faces.
