500 Songs for Kids Charity Marathon Kicks Off Today

All year round, the Songs for Kids Foundation sends musicians into the halls of children’s hospitals and helps sponsor camps for children dealing with everything from blood disorders to the loss of a parent or sibling. Starting today, April 29, they’ll be holding a ten-day fundraiser at Smith’s Olde Bar in Atlanta, hosting 50 artists a night to raise money for various initiatives.

The fourth annual 500 Songs for Kids’ theme is “The 500 Greatest Era-Defining Songs.” Today’s festivities will kick off with local musicians covering R.E.M.‘s "It’s the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)," followed by covers of everyone from Asia to Salt-N-Pepa. Each song will be performed by a different local artist or band, and special guests will be announced daily. Previous years have seen appearances from the likes of Cee-Lo, Janelle Monae and Mute Math. The complete list of songs for the event’s 10-day run can be found on Songs for Kids’ website.

Nightly admission is $10 and a pass for all ten nights costs $100. Tickets are available at TicketAlternative.com. Doors open at 7 p.m. nightly.
