Peter Case to Release First Post-Surgery Album, Wig!

Peter Case to Release First Post-Surgery Album, Wig!

This time last year, things were looking rather grim for Peter Case. The then-54-year-old had undergone open heart surgery and, since he didn’t have health insurance, was left with some pretty hefty hospital bills. But fellow musician friends and others stepped in to help the singer pay off his debt, and he’s since recorded Wig!, his latest full-length, due out June 29 via Yep Roc Records.

On the new album, which Case wrote mainly during his post-surgery recovery months, DJ Bonebrake of X and Ron Franklin of Gasoline Silver contribute with drums and guitar. And, though it may have taken him a while to mend following his heart problems, Case was able to record Wig! at an alarmingly quick pace; most of the new album was recorded live. “We played on a Friday, worked up some more songs on Sunday, entered the studio on Tuesday and at the end of Wednesday the album was mainly finished," Case said in a statement. “It felt really good to rock again."
