Paramount is planning on making a 3-D version of The Ring, which will be called, appropriately enough, Ring 3-D.
David Loucka is being touted as the scriptwriter, with Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald negotiating a return as producers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The 2002 movie was a remake of the 1998 Japanese movie of the same name, and starred Australian actress Naomi Watts as a young journalist investigating the death of people one week after they come into contact with a mysterious video tape.
No cast or director has been confirmed for the movie—which is believed to feature a more teen-friendly storyline, reinventing the film for a younger audience.
Upon its release in 2002, The Ring grossed $249 million worldwide and sparked a flurry of interest in horror movies from Japan—leading to the English production of The Grudge with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Dark Water starring Jennifer Connelly.
Ring 3-D currently has no production or expected release date.
