Terry Gilliam to Direct Faust Opera

Terry Gilliam to Direct Faust Opera

Okay, so maybe his last film featuring a dude who makes a deal with the devil was a little disappointing, but Terry Gilliam isn’t giving up on the theme yet.

TwentyFourBit reports that Gilliam is signed on to direct The Damnation of Faust this summer for the English National Opera. “You have to create a world for The Damnation of Faust,” ENO music director Edward Gardner told The Guardian. “That is something Gilliam is incredibly brilliant at doing – if not several worlds at once. He’s got a real grip on what needs to be done. I can’t wait to tap into his crazy world and artistry.”

Also directing a show in what ENO’s artistic director called the company’s most ambitious season yet is Jonsi collaborator Nico Muhly, who is adapting the true story of a young man in Manchester who used the internet to try to arrange his own murder.
