Charity Event Convinces The Rascals to Reunite for First Show in 40 Years

Rock and Roll Hall of Famers The Rascals—whose song “Groovin’” was a number one hit in 1967—are reuniting to play a benefit show on April 24. After nearly 40 years apart, the band’s four original members (Eddie Brigati, Felix Cavaliere, Gene Cornish and Dino Danelli) were persuaded to perform at the benefit by Kristen Ann Carr Fund honoree Stevie Van Zandt. But getting The Rascals to reunite was no easy task.

“I speak on behalf of the band when I say all the money offers in the world could not entice the Rascals to reunite,” said guitarist Gene Cornish, “but four phone calls from Stevie and without hesitation we enthusiastically and immediately agreed to both support this wonderful cause and honor Stevie and Maureen.”

Stevie and wife Maureen will be honored at the benefit, which will take place at Robert DeNiro’s Tribeca Grill in Manhattan. The Kristen Ann Carr fund was founded by Bruce Springsteen’s co-manager Barbara Carr and her husband, Dave Marsh, after their daughter Kristen lost her battle with sarcoma. Having already established Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s sarcoma center, the fund also provides MSKCC surgery and oncology fellowships, and “supports programs designed to help teenagers and young adults with cancer and other serious illnesses.”
