What with our culture’s seemingly insatiable interest in immersive media lately (3D movies, the iPad, etc.) it’s no surprise that the Science Channel has enlisted the expertise of Will Wright, creator of the popular Sims computer game. In his new role, Wright will be helping the channel create programs and series that will have complementary interactive components, making the audience’s experience a more well-rounded one.
As far as subject matter, Wright will be focusing on themes like time travel, alternate worlds and the future. Viewers will then be able to go online and access Wright’s custom-made interactive elements. “I want to take the way he engages an audience in gaming and bring that into a show,” Science Channel general manager Debbie Myers said in a statement.
