Update: Matthew Vaughn Directing New X-Men Movie, Release Date Set

Update: It’s official, and the movie is set for a June 3, 2011 release.

The X-Men: Origins movie series’ next installment is in the works, with Kick-Ass’ Matthew Vaughn in talks to direct, reports EW.com. X-Men: First Class will chronicle the X-Men characters—including Cyclops and Jean Gray—in their younger years.

Vaughn’s involvement is not yet set in stone, though. In 2005, the director signed on to helm X-Men: The Last Stand, but backed out after completing negotiations with Twentieth Century Fox.
