It’s been a while since we’ve heard much from Kanye West, other than the track he produced for Drake’s epic, impending full-length.
’Ye’s clearly left the AutoTune behind on “Power,” the new track from his upcoming album, the appropriately (and still kind-of-hilariously) titled Good Ass Job. He’s back with his usual combination of swagger and introspection, juxtaposing diamonds-and-women-and-cars imagery with ruminations on his own cultural position and public perception. “My furs is Mongolian, my ice brought the goalies in,” he raps. “Now I embody every characteristic of the egotistic.” That’s our Kanye!
“Power” features guest vocalist Dwele, who also appeared on “Flashing Lights,” from 2008’s Graduation. ’Ye’s rhymes get a boost from “Jesus Walks”-esque vocalization, punctuating handclaps and a killer sample of King Crimson’s “21st Century Schizoid Man.”
