Norah Jones, Members of MGMT, Yeasayer and Suckers Featured in Wah Do Dem
When filmmaker Ben Chace won a free cruise to Jamaica in a raffle two years ago, he invited his friend Sam Fleischner along and decided to use the trip to make a movie. After buying tickets for the film’s star, singer-songwriter Sean “Bones” Sullivan, and a sound guy, the duo boarded the ship in Brooklyn and took off on their week-long sail to Jamaica. Wah Do Dem is the result of that trip, and it features members of some of our favorite bands, both as actors and on the soundtrack.
The film revolves around Max (Sullivan), a Brooklyn skateboarder who wins a trip to Jamaica. He’s planning to take his girlfriend, Willow (Norah Jones), but she dumps him two days before they are set to sail. Max decides to take the cruise alone and eventually gets lost without his luggage, forcing him to trek through the countryside of Jamaica to reach the American embassy in Kingsport.
Yeasayer’s Ira Wolf-Tuton is part of the cast and a performance by Suckers is shown in the film. Ben Goldwasser from MGMT also makes an appearance. The soundtrack features music by the film’s star, Sean “Bones” Sullivan, Suckers and The Congos. Listen to selected songs here, and check out the film’s trailer below. The movie comes out on DVD Oct. 26.
