Robert Pollard is the exceptionally prolific former frontman (and one of Paste’s best living songwriters) of ’90s icons Guided By Voices. Pete Rose is a famous baseball player. One of them is in an athletic hall of fame. Can you guess which one?
If you guessed Pollard, you’re a winner. Earlier this month, he was inducted into Northridge High School’s hall of fame for excellence in a variety of sports, including baseball. Rose, on the other hand, has famously been barred from the Baseball Hall of Fame for betting on the sport.
Who better, then, to score 4,192, the upcoming documentary about Rose’s controversial career than another great athlete such as Pollard? Spin reports that Pollard would contribute both some previously recorded music and an original theme to the film. Pollard says, “[Director Terry Lukemire and producer Aymie Majerksi] were looking for someone to do all the music and Matt [Davis of Rockathon Records] said, ’Bob’s got thousands of songs, he’s all you need.’ I met with them a few weeks ago and saw a rough cut and they said they wanted a lot of anthemic stuff. It’s Pete Rose, he’s got heart. Muscle and heart.”
4,192 is slated for a premiere in early July.
