In support of its upcoming High Violet, out May 11, The National has an extensive tour of the U.S. and Europe on the docket for the summer. Even with dates that extend into September, the Brooklyn rockers can’t make it to all their fans’ hometowns, but anyone can tune in to their May 15 show at The Brooklyn Academy of Music. The gig will benefit Red Hot, an organization that combats AIDS through pop culture, and be shown via webcast from award-winning filmmakers D.A. Pennebaker (Don’t Look Back, Monterey Pop) and Chris Hegedus (the Oscar-nominated The War Room, the upcoming Kings of Pastry).
The National have partnered with Red Hot in the past, most notably on their Dark Was the Night compilation. The May event will add to the over $1 million the band has already raised for the charitable organization.
