Kings of Leon are wrapping up work on their fifth studio album and the follow-up to their 2008 breakout, Only By Night. While the album has yet to be named or given a definite release date, drummer Nathan Followill told MTV in a conference call about Bonnaroo that the album will be “fun.”
“It’s got songs that are beachy, it’s got songs that are a little more like our Youth and Young Manhood days. … We’re super excited,” Followill said.
The band recorded the new album in New York, a first after time spent in Los Angeles and Nashville. Followill said that he thought the different atmosphere would produce a darker sound, but instead it turned out “more chilled out, not as much hustle and bustle.”
Kings of Leon kick off a tour Saturday (June 5) in Atlantic City that includes a headlining slot at Bonnaroo, where they will play some of the songs from the new album.
