Coldplay Bassist Side-Project Releases Free EP

You probably wouldn’t count a-ha, the 80s Norwegian heartthrobs responsible for “Take On Me”, among the bands to influence Coldplay. And they’re not. They are, however, one of frontman Chris Martin’s favorite bands. Now, Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman has teamed up with the group’s keyboardist/guitarist to form Apparatjik, which has released a free EP on its website.

Berryman formed this side-project with Magne Furuholmen, singer/guitarist Jonas Bjerre Danish of Mew and drummer Martin Terefe in 2009. They made their live debut back in February.

The EP, 4 Can Keep a Secret if 3 of Them Are Dead, includes three tracks—“Antlers,” “Look Kids (Premix AA) Diskjokke A” and the title track. The tracks are dreamy, synth-filled indie pieces that make for good listening.

The group will be re-releasing their debut LP, We Are Here, on June 15. Until then, you can get a taste via the EP over at their strangely off-putting website, EyeOnCommittee.
