Update: Remember that “something cool” we mentioned yesterday? The something that involved funnyman Conan O’Brien and rockin’ Jack White in the same room? Well, that “something cool” has transformed into “something completely awesome.” O’Brien played a supposedly “rockabilly” flavored set for 300 people at White’s Third Man Records in Nashville.
The kicker? The entire session was recorded using reel-to-reel technology and is destined to be pressed into vinyl, although the vote seems out as to whether the vinyl will be sold outside of the crowd that was at the show. An eager crowd, a fantastic setlist that included covers of “Creep” by Radiohead and “Seven Nation Army” by the White Stripes, and funny improvised antics—how does it get any better? Check out a run down of the show and some fan photos and video at Brooklyn Vegan.

In an ambiguous tweet posted yesterday afternoon, Conan O’Brien announced that he and White Stripes/Dead Weather/Raconteurs frontman Jack White will be “doing something cool tomorrow,” adding, “Hint: It involves a LOT of Tears for Fears songs.” OK. Intriguing enough.
The tweet also includes a 35-second video (below), set to Jay-Z’s “D.O.A. (Death of AutoTune),” that shows White posting a flyer for tonight’s event on the door of his recording studio in Nashville, Third Man Records.
After their mysterious collaboration in Nashville tonight, both O’Brien and White are scheduled to perform at Bonnaroo this weekend. As part of his “Half-Assed Comedy & Music Tour” O’Brien will perform both Friday and Saturday afternoon, while White will rock out with The Dead Weather Saturday evening.
