Eagles of Death Metal Bassist Diagnosed with Cancer, Them Crooked Vultures Step in to Help
Eagles of Death Metal bassist Brian O’Connor has been diagnosed with cancer; he needs to undergo surgery immediately and begin chemotherapy in three weeks. Unfortunately, O’Connor doesn’t have health insurance to cover these unpredictable and pricey medical expenses.
After hearing the news, Them Crooked Vultures stepped in. The supergroup’s members have announced two benefit concerts to raise funds for their friend. The first show will take place on July 5 at London’s Brixton Academy. The second will take place in L.A., with details promised soon.
Dean Fertita from The Dead Weather and Queens of the Stone Age has offered to step in for O’Connor during the remainder of the Eagles of Death Metal’s summer tour.
O’Connor released a statement about the goodwill of his industry friends and his own high spirits: “In regards to my current health situation, with the remarkable support and love from my amazing friends and family, I am receiving the best medical and moral attention one could ask for. I cannot thank everyone enough for their continued support and involvement. I am excited for my full recovery and look forward to getting back to what I love most—melting face with my bass. I’m feeling great. After all, I am half unicorn. Keep ya posted.”
