After taking on zombies, aliens and evil exes, British production company Big Talk Pictures is ready for something completely different.
Deadline.com reports that Big Talk, the production company best known for the Simon Pegg/Nick Frost joints Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, will be producing a feature film about the Ascension Eagles, a London-based youth cheerleading squad. Big Talk also purchased the rights to the squad itself.
The film is based on the true story of the squad’s founding. According to their website, Shara Brice, the American wife of a British pastor, started the group in 1996 as a way to give disadvantaged youth an alternative activity.
According to Deadline’s report, Big Talk’s Nira Park, who is producing the project along with Damian Jones, said she envisions the film being a follow-your-dreams comedy in the vein of Billy Elliott and The Full Monty.
Big Talk has two more projects due out this summer: the alien flick Paul (starring Pegg & Frost) and the upcoming Michael Cera comedy Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World.
