Weird Al To Perform at Godspeed You! Black Emperor-Curated ATP Show

Weird Al To Perform at Godspeed You! Black Emperor-Curated ATP Show

Nope, we didn’t believe it either.

But it is so. Late last week, in a move entirely devoid of irony, the All Tomorrow’s Parties team announced the surprising addition of “Weird Al” Yankovic—the Archduke of Accordion, the Prince of Parody!—to the lineup of The Nightmare Before Christmas, an ATP show curated by Canadian post-rock giants Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

According to the ATP website, this is Weird Al’s first gig in Europe and the show “will feature a full band, huge video screens, numerous costume changes and much more.” We’re not sure what that means, but merely imagining Godspeed You! Black Emperor taking on Weird Al parody classics like “Amish Paradise,” “Grapefruit Diet” or “Like A Surgeon” is making our heads explode.

Other performers at Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s ATP show include Deerhoof, Tim Hecker, The Ex, Marissa Nadler, Nomeansno, Black Dice, Daniel Higgs (of Lungfish), The Dead C, Emeralds, Josephine Foster, Mike Watt, Scout Niblett, Wolves in the Throne Room, Francisco Lopez, White Magic, Growing, Rangda and the Boban i Marko Makovic Orchestra. The Nightmare Before Christmas will take place December 3-5 at Butlins Holiday Centre, Minehead, England.

And American audiences will be able to catch some ATP fun in New York over Labor Day weekend, where filmmaker Jim Jarmusch will be curating one of the days of the festival, with appearances from Sonic Youth, Raekwon, Vivian Girls, The Books, Wooden Shjips, Iggy & the Stooges, Explosions In The Sky, The Breeders, Fuck Buttons and a whole lot more.
