So there’s a movie coming out soon called Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and while this writer knows many people who are quite looking forward to it, she has no real idea what it’s about, who or what Scott Pilgrim might be and why he’s fighting the world. What this writer does know, however, is that the movie has a great pre-release promotion going on at the moment. The Scott Pilgrim Avatar Creator lets superfans and clueless internet users alike render themselves in the style of the graphic novels that inspired the movie—and, naturally, it’s utterly addictive. Which is why this writer, after Scott Pilgrimizing herself first thing this morning, then turned her attention to her iTunes library. Enjoy the results (below) and share your own! (Confidential to Scott Pilgrim Avatar Creator creators: Why isn’t a guitar among all the “accessories” options for the girls? Lame!)

m ward and win butler are the best.
Belatedly feel like I need to say that the taglines on these things ("The Fat Drunk Guy," "The Cute Younger Sister") were automatically generated by the Pilgrimizer, which has a strange little sense of robo-humor itself, I guess.
Love the ones you guys made. Your right, it is addicting. I made one of Isaac Brock from Modest Mouse: http://www.scottpilgrimthemovie.com/avatarCreator/download/index.php?f=/1277912122599img4930696.jpg
You should go to your local bookstore or library and check it out. (I did, and now I'm a huge fan.)
Scott Pilgrim is a great series of (so far) 5 graphic novels that features a slacker/bass-player who begins dating a mysterious woman. Sounds great so far, right? Except for the part where he has to defeat her 7 Evil Ex-Boyfriends.
Here's why Paste readers (and writers) should be into it:
- Obscure Canadian band references (the name Scott Pilgrim is from a song by the all-girl, Halifax, Nova Scotia, '90s band Plumtree) (says Wikipedia)
- Lead character plays bass in a band called Sex Bob-omb
- Sex Bob-omb stops playing gigs because they spend 3 months trying to record their album (which ends up being allof 17 minutes long)
- Upon being booked for a gig 3 months later, everyone assumes they broke up:
"It's like... Wow... A whole generation of bands has come and gone since you guys opened for the Demonheads in '05."
"That was this May!!"
It'a totally awesome. Also, some light videogame references too. Don't worry, you'll get them.
