Almodóvar! The Musical
Don’t cry for us, Almodóvar.
According to The New York Times, representatives from the Lincoln Center Theater announced a stacked lineup for the upcoming stage musical adaptation of Pedro Almodóvar’s classic 1988 dramedy Women On the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, including Broadway vet Patti LuPone, best known for her role as Eva Peron in the original cast of Evita.
Director Bartlett Sher told the NYT he would not be confirming any casting decisions, but reps from the Lincoln Center have said actress Jessica Biel, who had been rumored earlier this year to be up for a leading role, will not be involved in the production.
The cast also includes Brian Stokes Mitchell, Sherie Rene Scott, de’Adre Aziza, Danny Burstein, Mary Beth Peil and Nikka Graff Lanzarone. The project has some big names attached offstage as well, including writers Jeffrey Lane and David Yazbek (the team behind Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) and Sher, who directed 2008 revival of South Pacific.
The musical will begin preview runs at the Belasco Theater Oct. 2 and is slated to open officially Nov. 4.
