AT&T to Continue Airing AMC, WE, IFC

We’re happy to report that AT&T and Rainbow Media Holdings have reached an agreement that will allow AT&T’s DSL television/internet/phone service, U-Verse, to continue airing AMC, IFC and WE. A contract between the two companies that expired July 14 was renewed, allowing AT&T U-Verse’s 2.3 million subscribers to continue accessing the three channels and watch popular shows like AMC’s Mad Men, which premieres July 25.

In an e-mail statement to Paste, AT&T says the company is “very satisfied that we were able to reach the fair deal we wanted for our customers—one that includes the right content, across platforms, at prices that are in line with the marketplace, and that helps us with important strategic content initiatives.”

According to Reuters, Rainbow says the agreement the companies were able to negotiate “truly recognizes the value of [its] networks.”

As previously reported, AT&T was concerned that Rainbow was trying to forge an unfair deal that forced the company “to carry and accept inflated prices for the…channels.” Rainbow responded by claiming that AT&T was "acting in an aggressive manner that puts their corporate interests ahead of their customers.”

Further details on the terms of the new AT&T-Rainbow agreement have not been released at this time.
