Sweden may be far ahead of the US in their filmmaking schedule, having already completed the second and third installments of the Millenium trilogy films, but they certainly don’t have James Bond in any of them. Daniel Craig, best known for his lead role in the last two Bond films, has just signed on to play investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist in the first film of the American version of the Millenium trilogy, the film adaptations of Steig Larsson’s crime novel series.
The first novel, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, features a murder-mystery plotline, as Blomkvist struggles to uncover the truth.
The Swedish version, directed by Neils Arden Oplev, was released in 2009, as were the other two films in the series. The US version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo will be directed by David Fincher (Se7en) and is set to be released on December 21, 2011.
