Disney Characters and the Entertainers Born to Play Them

When we heard about Elizabeth Banks signing on to play Tinkerbell in an upcoming live-action movie, we thought to ourselves, “Duh.” Banks is such a perfect fit for the role, it’s almost like she was meant to play it.

That got us to thinking: Are there other entertainers out there who are fated to play famous cartoon characters? The answer, it turns out, is yes. Below is a gallery of 20 Disney characters (from the obvious to the obscure) whose live-action counterpart was, we believe, picked by destiny.

Isla Fisher would make a slightly inappropriate but befittingly gleeful Ariel (<i>The Little Mermaid</i>). Zoom Looks like Donald Sutherland already has the perfect costume (and the perfect ponytail) to play Grimsby, Prince Eric's manservant in <i>The Little Mermaid</i>. Zoom The crazy hair. The over-done make-up. The manly voice. RuPaul would make a great Sea Witch (<i>The Little Mermaid</i>). Zoom Vanessa (<i>The Little Mermaid</i>) was the Sea Witch's embodiment of a hot homewrecker. Oh, look! It's Angelina Jolie! Zoom Seth Rogen practically plays Baloo the Bear (<i>The Jungle Book</i>) in all his movies: witty, irresponsible, pot-bellied. Zoom Cee-Lo Green and Mr. Toad (<i>Mr. Toad's Wild Ride</i>). We'll let the resemblance speak for itself. Zoom It looks as if Christopher Plummer is already lobbying to play Geppetto (<i>Pinnochio</i>). Zoom With bangs like that, how could Justin Bieber not play Christopher Robin (<i>Winnie The Pooh</i>)? Zoom Zach Galifianakis as Eeyore (<i>Pooh</i>)? Wouldn't be the first time he made a (loveable) ass of himself. Wink. Zoom Scale back the sexy, and Eva Longoria Parker looks Belle enough to fool the Beast. Zoom Johnny Depp took a fair shake at the character of Ichabod Crane (<i>Legend of Sleepy Hollow</i>), but we think Depp could be bested by Crane's live-action twin: Adrien Brody. Zoom Ryan Kwanten has everything you need to play Jake (<i>Rescuers Down Under</i>): a cute face, an Aussie accent, and an attitude. Zoom Jason Isaacs always plays the bad guy. Could he play the worst guy of them all (Scar, of <i>The Lion King</i>, duh)? We think so. Zoom Slap a vest and a pill-box hat on Rodrigo Santoro, and he'll be running the streets of Agraba (<i>Aladdin</i>) in no time. Zoom Richard Attenborough is just jolly enough (and his white beard is just full enough) to make him a shoe-in for the Sultan (<i>Aladdin<i>). Zoom He's gangly, has a squeaky voice, and sidekicks like nobody's business. Christopher Mintz-Plasse is Abu (<i>Aladdin</i>). Zoom Michael Phelps as <i>The Brave Little Toaster</i>. Ok, we admit it. This one was all about the ears. Zoom Remember Powerline from <i>A Goofy Movie</i>? We're pretty sure Will. I. Am. does. Zoom The Siamese Cats (<i>Lady and The Tramp</i>) are the weirdest, sexiest, spookiest felines in all of Disney-dom. Translation: They are Lady Gaga. Zoom We're not the first ones to point out the resemblance between Joan Rivers and Yzma (<i>The Emperor's New Groove</i>). And, thanks to Rivers' policy on aging, we probably won't be the last. Zoom
