Early this July, award-winning filmmaker Travis Matthews spent some time talking to Girls’ frontman Christopher Owens in his San Francisco bedroom. In addition to performing a new Girls song from the upcoming album, he and Owens discussed song themes, sexuality (gay or otherwise), Owens’ move from Texas to San Francisco, and, of course, Taylor Swift.
According to Owens, Taylor Swift’s song, “You Belong With Me” influenced the first story song he’s done, in that it goes along the same boy-girl-girl scenario as Swift’s song.
Owens maintains a relaxed demeanor throughout, and talks candidly about his past as a painter and Children of God member. He also opens up about a nervous breakdown, hunting with his friends back in Texas, and how his love for San Francisco causes Matthews to dub him the San Francisco Ambassador.
