Vampire Weekend Getting Sued by Contra Cover Woman

Remember Kirsten? The preppy blonde on the cover of the Vampire Weekend’s latest effort, Contra? Well, according to Spinner, she’s suing the band and the photographer who took the vintage photo for more than $2 million.

She claims that the signature on the photo’s release form is a forgery and says that “the album design, in which the photograph is featured prominently, was a substantial factor in generating recognition and buzz for the Contra album, thus increasing sales and profits.”

The model, whose full name is Kirsten Kennis, filed the lawsuit with the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Wednesday. She claims she had no idea the portrait, which was taken by Tod Brody in 1983, was being used by the band “until she was one day confronted by an image of her younger self.”
