Who Should Play Jerry Garcia in A Biopic?

2010 is already shaping up to be a big year for Grateful Dead nostalgia, as fans mark the 15th anniversary of the passing of Jerry Garcia with everything from concerts to stadium nights.

Now, a long-discussed biopic based on the Grateful Dead’s lovable, iconic frontman is moving forward with a director, according to a report from Variety.

Amir Bar-Lev (The Tillman Story) has been tapped to direct and the Topper Lilien-penned script will be formed from Dark Star Robert Greenfield’s oral history of Garcia, with a focus on incidents in his early years (his father’s death, a 1961 car crash) that inspired him to pursue the guitar. Eric Eisner (Hamlet 2) and Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa (Little Children , Cold Mountain) will produce.

With the pieces for the biopic starting to fall into place, fans are beginning to speculate about who should be cast as the rock legend. Here’s our picks for actors who could just maybe pull it off (in some cases, with a little fake beard and some movie magic). Feel free to leave your own suggestions in their proper place below.
