<em>Black August: A Hip-Hop Benefit Concert</em> Premieres Tonight

New York-based rap fans, get thee to the Lincoln Center tonight.

Dream Hampton’s documentary, Black August: A Hip-Hop Benefit Concert, is co-presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center tonight. It chronicles the nonprofit Malcolm X Grassroots Movement and its annual event to raise awareness and support for the political prisoners in our country. Featured in the film are exiled activist Assata Shakur, as well as Mos Def, Common, Dead Prez, The Roots, Erykah Badu, Talib Kweli, and more.

The event, hosted by Dead Prez’s M1, will feature a performance by Blitz the Ambassador and a panel discussion with Talib Kweli.
