You were expecting another Zac Efron collaboration?

/Film reports that Jack Black and Shirley MacLaine have been cast in the leading roles in his upcoming film, Bernie, a Texas-centric saga based on a true crime story that Linklater has called his answer to Fargo (“crazy local with fifty characters”). Black will play an assistant funeral home director and MacLaine an elderly woman he befriends.

Linklater’s film is based on the story of Bernie Tiede, a real East Texas-based assistant funeral home director who confessed to killing his aged companion.

Linklater will begin filming Bernie in Texas this fall.
