M.I.A. will join the likes of Harvard Law professor Lawrence Lessig, MOMA senior curator Paola Antonelli and Supersize Me director Morgan Spurlock as a judge at the 2010 Vimeo Festival + Awards, to be held Oct. 8-9 in New York City.

The awards aim to “honor the creative minds behind the world’s most innovative videos online,” evaluating original films in nine categories: Narrative, Animation, Documentary, Motion GFX, Music Video, Experimental, Remix, Captured and Original Series. The Best New Video winner, selected from finalists in each category, will receive $25,000 towards future filmmaking work.

The awards were open to anyone for submission, though the July 31 deadline has now passed.

The roster of judges includes filmmakers David Lynch, Roman Coppola, DJ Spooky and many others, all in various categories. A full list of judges and their biographies can be viewed at Vimeo.com.
