My Morning Jacket Recording New Album

The follow-up to My Morning Jacket’s 2008 release, Evil Urges, is currently being recorded at a church in the band’s hometown of Louisville, Ky. Frontman Jim James recently told Rolling Stone he’s “really excited” about the band’s sixth studio effort. “It’s all live, so the vibe is really, really good, really wholesome,” he says. “There’s something about it. We’ve done stuff mostly live but then you do some overdubs, some vocals, or whatever. But we’re trying to do everything other than maybe strings live. There’s just something old and dirty about it.”

James says five new tracks have already been recorded and one more month in the studio will allow them to finish up the record. “It’ll probably be out mid-next year — probably May,” he says.

Tucker Martine (The Decemberists, Thao) is co-producing the album with James, who has recently been touring and recording with supergroup Monsters of Folk. My Morning Jacket’s guitarist, Carl Broemel, just finished recording a solo album, All Birds Say, which drops Aug. 31.
