Universal, which owns the video content for artists like Lady Gaga and the Black Eyed Peas, has removed all music-video content from MTV.com after the two companies discussed new licensing terms last week.
Universal will instead be using Vevo to syndicate and distribute their music videos. According to the Wall Street Journal, MTV previously licensed videos directly from the record labels, who now want to allow Vevo to syndicate the videos. MTV and Vevo did not reach an agreement that would allow both groups to use Universal content.
Universal videos will still be shown on MTV cable networks.
