Variations on a Meme: Prancing Cera
Oh, Internet. You’ve done it again.
On Sunday (Aug. 22), Scott Pilgrim vs. The World director Edgar Wright uploaded this photo he took of the film’s star, Michael Cera, leaping—one might even say prancing—between two platforms on a dock with the kind of grace and finesse only a meme could properly highlight. Within a week, folks on the Internet began creating their own Prancing Cera image macros, most often juxtaposing the original photo with lyrics in which “dance” is turned into “prance” (i.e. “Are we human…or are we prancer?” or “I’m never gonna prance again, guilty feet ain’t got no rhythm.”). You get the idea.
The image sparked a phenomenon on Tumblr, culminating in the creation of Fuck Yeah Prancing Cera. Below are some of our favorite selections from the blog. Keep Calm and Prance On, y’all…
