It’s official—Twitter official, even: After 16 years, Rivers Cuomo and the rest of his Weezer clan have left their Universal-owned label, Geffen, for Epitaph. Weezer has been with Geffen since its 1994 self-titled debut (a.k.a. “The Blue Album”). Last fall’s Raditude (which received tepid-at-best reviews) fulfilled the band’s contractual obligation to Geffen, and this fall’s Weezer release, Hurley (due Sept. 14), will be released via the band’s new home.
