Update: According to a No Depression report, Justin Townes Earle has suspended a month’s worth of tour dates and is entering rehab. We wish him a speedy recovery.
Update: Justin Townes Earle responded with a statement to My Old Kentucky Blog which reads as follows: “Unfortunately, reports surfacing online about the incident in Indianapolis are not accurate. I have been advised by counsel that I should not comment on a pending criminal matter, but suffice to say that I am looking forward to having my day in court. I would also like to say that I oppose violence against women in any form.”
Last Thursday, Justin Townes Earle was arrested following an altercation in Indianapolis.
Earle, who was performing at Radio Radio, was charged with battery, public intoxication and resisting law enforcement. He reportedly became belligerent after audience members heckled him during his show, and he allegedly destroyed equipment backstage and punched the club owner’s daughter.
After posting bail, Earle tweeted, “Sorry for missing radio Louisville. I was in jail! Making the show at headliners though. Free again!!!” Then, about half an hour later, “Oh and Radio Radio in Indy and all it’s staff can kiss my fucking ass! I think the Felice Bros. Would agree.” Phew.
A court date is set for Oct. 19. Check out some firsthand accounts of the incident at My Old Kentucky Blog. Here’s hoping the remainder of his tour goes without incident.
