Paul McCartney will be among those celebrated at this year’s Kennedy Center Honors for his contributions to American pop culture.
Sir Paul will receive the award at a special state dinner at the White House on Dec. 4. A gala paying tribute to him and fellow honorees Merle Haggard, Oprah Winfrey, Jerry Herman and Bill T. Jones will be taped on Dec. 5.
In a statement on his website, McCartney wrote, “President Kennedy was such an icon for us in the sixties, and his presidency was so inspiring for so many people that it is a great pleasure for this kid from Liverpool to receive this honor.”
The 33rd Annual Kennedy Center Honors will air on CBS on Dec. 28.
