Earlier this summer trailers for the Jesse Eisenberg-starring, Facebook-centered feature film The Social Network were released.
The David Fincher-directed Columbia Pictures film is a dramatization of the story behind Facebook based on Ben Mezrich’s book, The Accidental Billionaires: The Founding Of Facebook, A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius, and Betrayal. Its soundtrack was a collaboration between Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and English musician Atticus Ross. Reznor posted a note on the soundtrack’s website saying that, “Musically, this all came out of our secret laboratory — electronic in basis, but mostly organic sounding. Lots of experiments and emphasis on sound fraying around the edges while focusing on the proper emotional tone for the various scenes.”
The soundtrack to The Social Network will be out digitally on September 28 and in various physical forms in October, but pre-orders can be made now. Why would you pre-order a soundtrack, you ask? Well, each pre-order includes an instant download sampler of five free songs. (Though the sampler can also be currently be downloaded on the site for the price of an e-mail address.) Finally, according to the site, “Standalone digital will be available for purchase EXCLUSIVELY on Amazon MP3 at a promotional rate of $2.99 for a 48 hour period starting 12:01am on 9/28.”
