J.K. Rowling Awarded Inaugural Hans Christian Andersen Literature Prize

Harry Potter series mastermind J.K. Rowling is the first recipient of the new Danish award nicknamed the “Nobel Prize for children’s literature.”

This week, Rowling accepted the $95,000 in Andersen’s birthplace, Odense, Denmark. According to The Guardian, Rowling applauded Andersen’s characters as “indestructible, eternal.” Judges theoretically award the prize to an author whose work reaches a caliber that allows its comparison to that of Andersen.
