Harry Potter series mastermind J.K. Rowling is the first recipient of the new Danish award nicknamed the “Nobel Prize for children’s literature.”
This week, Rowling accepted the $95,000 in Andersen’s birthplace, Odense, Denmark. According to The Guardian, Rowling applauded Andersen’s characters as “indestructible, eternal.” Judges theoretically award the prize to an author whose work reaches a caliber that allows its comparison to that of Andersen.

And if Rowling is proved to be a thief and a liar in the forthcoming trial in England's High Court how dumb are the Danes going to look? Not as dumb as the Brits, that's for sure, who have consistently passed her over in the New Year's Honours List. Why? Has she made no contribution to literature when the rest of the world are showering her with accolades for just that? Perhaps the selection committee, who cannot afford to make mistakes,know something we don't.
