Spike Jonze Gets Detained in Yemen, Bribes Himself Out of it

Spike Jonze was just — you know — traveling around the oft-vacationed country of Yemen with Vice founder Shane Smith, filming a new series for MTV and then the authorities had to get all arresty.

Jonze and Smith were in the midst of filming the investigative show The Vice Guide to Everything (a show that’s been credited as a crude combination of 60 Minutes and Jackass), searching for the al-Qaeda when Yemeni authorities picked them off.

The two plus crew managed to get off with an $8 thousand pay-off.

“Most of these places you can bribe your way out of for a couple hundred bucks,” Smith told New York Post.
