Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke will bring us medieval-set fantasy Red Riding Hood, starring Amanda Seyfried, on March 11. Gary Oldman, Virginia Madsen, Billy Burke and Julie Christie will also appear in the film.
Hardwicke takes a loose approach in following the classic Brothers Grimm fairytale. And when we say loose, we mean the story involves a young(ish) girl donning a red cape and a wolf. Red Riding Hood follows the scarlet-clad Seyfried as she falls in love with an orphaned carpenter who may or may not moonlight as the town’s token bloodthirsty werewolf. We’re putting our money on the former.
“Catherine Hardwicke has just completely turned this story into something edgy and gothic and dark,” Seyfried said on MTV’s The Seven. “And she’s clearly somebody that’s very capable of turning something, everything into an extraordinary world, as we’ve seen before.”
