MPAA Overturns Blue Valentine's NC-17 Rating

MPAA Overturns <em>Blue Valentine</em>'s NC-17 Rating

The MPAA has unanimously voted to overturn the controversial NC-17 rating for Blue Valentine after a personal plea from Harvey Weinstein.

The movie was originally slapped with the naughty rating for a scene of simulated oral sex between stars Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. Weinstein reportedly presented the ratings board with clips from other movies that had received R ratings, including sex scenes between Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas in Basic Instinct and Viggo Mortensen and Maria Bello in A History of Violence.

All fourteen MPAA officials voted in favor of overturning the rating, and Blue Valentine is now rated R for “strong graphic sexual content, language, and a beating.” It’ll be released in select cities on Dec. 31.
