Although The Decemberists are probably pretty busy readying for the Jan. 16 release of The King is Dead, they’re currently kicking around the idea of penning a musical. Insert “I Was Meant for the Stage” joke here.
American Idiot director Michael Mayer may be attributed to piquing the band’s interest in the theater project. “We’re still talking and there’s potential for a musical down the line, for sure,” frontman Colin Meloy told Billboard.
Apparently the Meloy’s first plan was to center the play’s plot on miners in Butte, Montana, circa 1900. Instead, The King is Dead’s “Rox Box” embraced the concept.
