Avatar 2, the sequel to James Cameron’s 2009 master work, will likely hit theaters near Christmas in 2014, while Avatar 3 will arrive around Christmas 2015, according to an interview with Cameron from Entertainment Weekly’s Inside Movies. Cameron also mentions that most of the cast will return for the sequels.
Regarding the timetable of the films, Cameron says, “We are planning to shoot them together and post them together, and we will probably release them not quite back to back, but about a year apart.”
Addressing the cast of the second film, he basically says that if characters "survived the first film, [they’ll] get to be in the second film, at least in some form.”
Some of the profits from the film will go to a charity, and the donation will likely be quite large considering Avatar is the highest-grossing film in history, pulling in roughly $2.8 billion worldwide, according to boxofficemojo.com.
