Björk Song Used in Solar System iPad App

Björk has always been known for her otherworldly sound, so it’s fitting that one of her new compositions appears in an iPad app called “Solar System.” The app was developed by Touch Press and Faber & Faber and written by best-selling author Marcus Chown.

“Solar System” is an eBook that contains a “wealth of beautiful 3D objects, movies, images, animations, and diagrams, all fully interactive, richly detailed and accurately based on real scientific data,” according to the iTunes description. Additionally, it displays “more than 150 beautifully presented story pages lavishly illustrated with interactive scenes, videos and 3D objects.”

Over 600 images from organizations like NASA, ESA (European Space Agency) and JAXA (Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency) are viewable. Each image has captions, which include technical data. If users have an internet connection, they can get live data from Wolfram | Alpha, which “[provides] comprehensive astronomical information.”

Björk’s song comes from her upcoming project called “Biophilia”: a science-fiction musical directed by Michel Gondry. The track pertains only to the app’s introduction, but it isn’t available anywhere else at the moment.

The Solar System iPad app (demo below) costs $13.99.
