John Malkovich has long been considered a terrific actor, but his operatic talent remains slightly more mysterious to the average movie lover. But audiences in Vienna, Italy are getting a taste of his singing talent in the role of famous womanizer, Casanova.
The chamber opera play, The Giacomo Variations, debuted yesterday (Jan. 5) in Vienna at the Ronacher theater. Writer and director Michael Sturminger told AFP before the premiere that it’s "a genre between genres.” Malkovich performs Mozart operas such as “Don Giovanni” in the play alongside co-star Ingeborga Dapkunaite (Mission Impossible, Hannibal Rising).
The Giacomo Variations will stay in Vienna for a few more days before heading to Sydney and touring Europe through the summer.
