Movie and television subscription service Netflix, which allows users to stream content through a variety of media including television, gaming consoles and computers, is looking to capitalize on the growth of streaming media and the declining emphasis on DVDs.
The company has already created subscription services exclusively for streaming content, and simply taking a look at their job openings reveals a truckload of positions related to handling and dispersing digital media.
While many DVD users are unhappy about the new direction, Netflix director of property management Jamie Odell said in a blog post:
We’re removing the “Add to DVD Queue” option from streaming devices. We’re doing this so we can concentrate on offering you the titles that are available to watch instantly. Further, providing the option to add a DVD to your Queue from a streaming device complicates the instant watching experience and ties up resources that are better used to improve the overall streaming functionality.
