The site ATU2.com picked up the news that the German site U2tour.de listed May 27, 2011 as the release date for U2’s next album, generically titled “new album 2011.”
While no official announcement has been made, ATU2.com makes the point that the date coincides with what Paul McGuiness said last November.
We are trying very hard to use this time in New Zealand and Australia to finish an album that will be released in the spring…It’s not so much recording as editing and polishing up lyrics and trying to getting it done by the date it needs to be delivered to the record company for release in May. It’s sounding great: lots of hits.
Update: ATU2.com via U2tour.de has gotten word from McGuiness that U2 is definitely “planning to have a new album out in May.”
The temporary title Songs Of Ascent that Bono “originally used to refer to what was expected to be an album of songs leftover from the No Line On The Horizon sessions,” writes ATU2, will not the the name of the album, which is still to-be-determined.
