Earlier this week, Sony Computer Entertainment America filed a complaint for injunctive relief, a motion for a temporary restraining order and an order of impoundment against members hacking group fail0verflow (Hector Martin Cantero and Sven Peter), George Hotz, and other anonymous users for working around the PlayStation 3’s security.
Sony claims the accused violated the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act and other copyright laws. Late last year, fail0verflow discovered a way to access private root keys in the PS3, which allowed them to run any kind of software, including pirated. Hotz gave the tools to other hackers and posted a YouTube video that demonstrates his ability to run homebrew games on his PS3.
