Albums are a lot of work. But when broken down into little bits, they’re not so bad. Head Flaming Lip Wayne Coyne recently told Rolling Stone that the band will release a new song every month, and film the recording process as well.
Coyne estimates the project will begin in late January in the band’s home state of Oklahoma, where they’ll work with longtime producer Dave Fridmann (OK Go, Sparklehorse, Elf Power).
But the songs don’t seem to be Coyne’s biggest concern. “The dilemma is whether we’re going to release it on vinyl, cereal boxes or some of it on toys that we make," he tells RS, referring to merchandise fans can purchase along with the downloads. In addition to worrying about merch, Coyne will have to sort out the short videos as well, which will “connect in the end to a bigger movie we’ll be making next year as well.”
In related Flaming Lips news, don’t miss our photos from their New Year’s Eve celebration in Oklahoma City. The funny thing is that the show doesn’t look much different than a “normal” Flaming Lips concert.
