The Week in Gaming News

Our round-up of notable news from the world of gaming for the week of January 10th, 2011.

• At last week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Razer debuted a palm-sized, touch-screen gaming PC. The device's innovative keyboard features a second LCD screen underneath its keys which can change button layouts on the fly.

• EA CEO John Riccitiello, speaking to IndustryGamers, said that he expects digital game sales to exceed brick-and-mortar retail sails this year.

• And right along with that announcement, EA declared that the upcoming PS3 version of the previously Xbox 360-exclusive Mass Effect 2 will be available as a digital download on launch day.

Capcom is “saddened” by the Splosion Man/MaXplosion situation, admitting that its console team did meet with Splosion Man developer Twisted Pixel, but that Capcom Mobile—the team behind MaXplosion—had no knowledge of those meetings.

• Capcom isn't all problems though, as the team developing upcoming fighter Marvel vs Capcom 3 has come up with a tricky way to deal with ragequitters. Repeat offense ragequitters—players who repeatedly quit a losing match rather than stay through the end—will begin to be paired only with other ragequitters.

• "Still Alive" songscribe Jonathan Coulton tweeted that he will be contributing a song to Portal 2.

• And finally, a domain registration for “www.finalfantasy13-2game” by a company known to register domains for Square-Enix hints at a possible sequel to Final Fantasy XIII. The FFXIII story still has plenty to be told, with Versus XIII and Agito XIII still without release dates.

And from Paste's own news coverage:

• We found what just might be the greatest videogame review ever.

• The Game Developers Choice Awards announced their 2011 nominees.

• Sony sued the hackers who finally cracked the PS3.

• The famous classic videogame Missile Command is getting... a film adaptation.

• And shortly after finally entering beta, the critical darling indie game Minecraft passed the one million-sold mark.
